Belleville Area’s Legacy
Welcome to the digital home of the Belleville (WI) Area Historical Society.
The history of the Belleville area is defined by the interconnected stories of Montrose and Exeter townships, as well as the communities of Belleville, Paoli, Basco, and Dayton. Our region’s identity was shaped by the intersection of the Sugar River and the Chicago, Madison and Northern Railroad. From our early roots in agriculture and milling, the area expanded to become a center for transportation and commerce. Our story is one of strong community, regional pride and determined resilience.
Preserving the Past, Inspiring the Future
The Belleville Area Historical Society (BAHS) is more than just a collection of artifacts; we are the stewards of our collective memory. We are focused on capturing the voices of those who came before us—the farmers, the teachers, the soldiers, the business owners, and the families—and ensure their legacy continues to enrich our exceptional quality of life today.
Whether you are new to the community, a lifelong resident, a curious visitor, or a descendant searching for your roots, we welcome you to join us in celebrating Belleville's history.
