The history of the Belleville area is defined by the interconnected stories of Montrose and Exeter townships, as well as the communities of Belleville, Paoli, Basco, and Dayton.  Our region’s identity was shaped by the intersection of the Sugar River and the Chicago, Madison and Northern Railroad. From our early roots in agriculture and milling, the area expanded to become a center for transportation and commerce. Our story is one of strong community, regional pride and determined resilience.
